01 Highlight

A village to be explored

A colourful line-up of shacks...

Christophe is a fisherman…

He gentle rides up the channel and moors outside his hut.

Whistling, he waves to us as he unloads his oysters…

The rows of huts are typical of the area.
The terraces are colourfully decorated with fishing nets, driftwood, old buoys, parasols and piles of oyster shells…

All part of the authentic charm!!!

Did you know?

In the oyster farmers’ huts you’ll also find mussels, clams, shrimps, urchins, winkles, etc. But they are not restaurants, just huts where you can try the local specialities.

Secrets of Caramoun

Christophe tells us about the famous “Caramoun” oysters and his production secrets. The oysters are suspended in oyster racks. A turbine is used to create a tidal effect which causes the racks to rise above the water and expose the oysters to air. This ordeal makes them stronger and firmer and gives them more bite.

Prices
From €6 to €10 per ½ dozen depending on size.
From €6 to €15 for a platter of 3 oysters, 3 mussels & 3 clams.
Wine: By the glass, pitcher or bottle.

Between tradition and modernity

Oysters are sea-dwelling molluscs and can be found among fossils. Many different species have existed over time. Just like their ancestors, they play an important role in ecology and the food chain on the continental plateaus, contributing among other things to carbon cycles and sinks. The connected “Caramoun” oyster... and the 4th-generation web! Just joking!!! But seriously, a smartphone is used to trigger the raising of the oyster racks!!!

02 Highlight

A lively White Wine oozing with fresh sea air

To accompany your oysters, Christophe suggests an expressive white wine that offers a bracing blend of sea air and sunshine, straight from the “Cap Leucate Vineyards”.
A Mediterranean fragrance blends with the scent of the garrigue. Swept by the winds and waters of the sea and lakes, Leucate vines draw their wholeness and pleasant bouquet from the richness of this land full of contrast.

A beach of legends

This sandy postage stamp makes quite a change from the vast Mediterranean beaches stretching towards their Pyrenean backdrop.

Here, you just want to sit down and meditate…

A watersports playground

Leucate, the lake, oysters and riders… Wings and sails that dance and twirl. This is a magnificent playground for watersports enthusiasts, watched over by the Canigou and Corbières mountains on the right, and the Big Blue Sea on the left. You can never get enough of this sumptuous decor…

Leucate offers a wide variety of different spots and the wind blows 300 days of the year.

A world-class event:
Every year during the Spring holidays, the Mondial du Vent attracts watersports fans to watch the world’s top kitesurfers, stand-up paddlers and windsurfers.
A show the whole family will enjoy, with windsurf, kitesurf and stand-up paddle competitions and a Watersports Village to keep everyone entertained with spectacular events and activities galore!
