Description
How to deal with absence? This question has occupied the history of images since the beginning, when negative hands in Paleolithic caves became the traces of passed beings. The image tells of absence, what time does to us and to things, what time imposes on the fury of living. The image, as a representation of the world, makes present again. There lies the strength and violence of images and what they are made to be. Only here: in this project that Juliette Parisot calls “M”, the image and its concept are turned inside out like gloves. Juliette’s images are not a representation of the world or of individuals; they present nothingness and make it tangible. Between self-portraits and portraits of missing beings, Juliette shapes the light to give a place to the wind and the void. Her self-portraits in the shadow, where one can barely make out the form of a body and the gestures that support a child who is not there, show what the image ignores: everything that hides behind the surface of a body in pain.
